Group kicks against nomination of ‘all-APC’ EXCO in Otukpo Local Gov’t

Pro-People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Group, Idoma Youth Renainsance Movement (IYRM) have kicked against the nomination of what they described as an ‘all-APC’ executive commitee (EXCO) for Otukpo local government council by the Chairman, Hon. George Alli.

The Chairman had earlier in the week anounced the nomination of Hon. Sunday Ikpa, Capt Achichi, Hon. Mohammed Danjuma and Hon. Adama Adama, all card carying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as members of his new EXCO.

In a statement released by the Secretary General of the Group, Comrade Oblah John Oblah following a meeting at Sunrise Hotel, Otukpo, the group accused the Chairman of nominating mostly staunch members of the APC into his new EXCO despite his defection to the PDP.

According to Comrade Oblah, “These are staunch die hard APC members who have sworn to sink or swim with APC. We are therefore surprised Mr Alli has chosen to include them in his EXCO.”

Meanwhile, Hon. George Alli has pledged his loyalty to the PDP following his defection to the party last week.

Hon. Alli who was reponding to rumours that he was being tipped to be Governor Ortom’s running mate in next year’s gunernatorial elections said even though he thanked the public for their support, he had no intentions to replace the current deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu, saying he was fully focused on his job as Chairman of Otukpo local government.

“The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Rt. Hon. Chief George Alli wishes to distance himself from the rumours that Hon. George is to replace Benue State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Benson Ocholuje Abounu, as running mate to the Executive Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, in the 2019 general election.

“Honourable George Alli has a job to do as the elected Chairman of Otukpo Local Government and he is interested in completing the good works for which he was elected by the good people of Otukpo.

“The Council Chairman therefore call on the general public, including party chieftains and faithfuls, to disregard the false news. Alli also wishes to thank the general public for their continued support to him.” A statement by his media aide, Desmond Oogwu read.
