Governor Ortom lied during campaign flag-off, Says Benue pensioners owed for 74 months

• Maybe he was referring to Bauchi and not Benue State pensioners

Benue North-East Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners have accused the state Governor, Samuel Ortom of lying during his campaign flag- off a few days ago where he said pensioners were being paid regularly and as at when due.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Nyitar and Secretary, Comrade Augustine Ugosor, the group said the Governor’s statement was very far from the truth, adding that some of their members were being owed pensions for up to 74 months.

The group berated Governor Ortom for adding salt to injury by engaging in propaganda over the issue at the detriment of their lives, saying the Governor has by so doing, signed the death sentence of pensioners in the state.

“The above Body of Pensioners in strong terms wish to distance its self from the information going round the print and  Electronic Media as well as political larries Sponsored  by the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom alleging to have settled Pensioners Monthly earning and gratuities with arrears pending.

“We believe the number one citizen who duely signed death sentences of Pensioners is God like on Earth and cannot make such uncalled for statement when the people to benefit from such alleged payment are still living.

“The world must know that Since the inception of 2018, Pensioners were only paid in January but still only those in Makurdi sub treasuries. All other sub arrears have not been paid since January 2018.

“Apart from the above, there are other unpaid pension ranging from 6, 3 and other months.

“The local government Pensioners have been regrouped in 3 sub division; some unpaid for 74months, 12 and others last captured more than 3years and above without payment.

“It must be noted that the social implications of media propaganda on Pensioners pay and gratuities is has reached the unbearable climax.

“On December  28th 2018, two cases were recorded at the Nigeria Police Division Katsina Ala and five at the Vigilante Station All in Katsina Ala were our members were reported to refund the money they collected on credit having heard on the radio Stations Gov. Ortom has paid our members. A practical approach was initiated by us to free our members from this law enforcement agencies. This is the New year we have received from His Excellency.

The group appealed to the Governor to address thier issues, while urging their members to always paray and remain calm and law abiding as they wait for response from the Government.
