Benue Killings: Suswam’s Attack Dogs Responsible – Benue APC

By Michael A.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State, Comfortable Abba Yaro has asked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to look no further than within their ranks for the killers of their party chieftain, Atoza Ihindan and other members.

The chairman said this in response to comments made by the former minister of internal affairs, Comrade Abba Moro insinuating that the APC Were responsible for the killing of prominent PDP members in the state.

The chairman said the spat of killings which is peculiar to Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo axis was the activity of the attack dogs of former Governor Gabriel Suswam in a fallout of his botched senatorial bid and internal rancour as a result of money sharing.

The full statement is as follows:

My attention has been drawn to comments attributed to former minister of internal affairs comrade Abba moro that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for the assassination of prominent PDP members in Benue state.

We in the APC family consider this statement as most reckless, scandalous, reprehensible, unacceptable and blatant falsehood.

I wish to state categorically state that our party does not deploy, condone and approve assassinations or any other manner of killings in it’s politicking.
We did not use violence or killings to win elections and there is neither justification nor need to deploy such now that we are the governing party.
As an opposition party, we had neither the means or desire to acquire instruments of violence or use them.

On the other hand, it is the Peoples Democratic Party that has been known for violence in the 16-years that it held sway in the affairs of the country.
Moreover, in the build-up to the 2015 elections we reported attacks on our supporters and even our Governorship candidate Samuel Ortom’s convoy by suspected PDP thugs in Adikpo.
We also reported the acquisition of arms by chieftains of that party for use during the elections.

Although God working through the allegiance of the masses thwarted most of the PDP’s plans of violence, they were able to kill four APC supporters in Logo Local Government area and one each in Ushongo and Makurdi Local Government areas during the elections.

This underscored the genuiness of our alarm about the PDP’s acquisition of arms and plan to deploy same during the polls.
The PDP had massively looted the resources of the state with the objectives of utilising the loot to overwhelm the electorates so that they could retain power.

The violence within the ranks of the party could be attributed to disagreement on money sharing formula as well as accusations and counter-accusations on money related issues.
It must be noted that the former interior minister has antecedants of gun-running as well as a publicised criminal case in this regard.
In the light of recent developments in the state, we have resolved to press for the re-opening of that case.
We shall also petition the Nigerian Human Rights Commission to investigate the tragic immigration recruitment in which Comrade Moro as minister, master-minded the death of many innocent Nigerian job-seekers.

The former governor who lost his senate bid had also vowed publicly that his attack dogs would go after people who collect his money and fail to execute his wish. The killings which are more rampant in the Benue North-East senatorial district and in the Sankera axis are the direct consequences of this threat.
With this kind of blood thirsty chieftains, PDP should look within it’s ranks to find the killers.
